Reports and Plans
Fact Finding – Survey, Photos
We have used a survey to collate information on the impact of storm Babet in October 2023 and the previous storm in May 2023. Thank-you if you filled the survey in!
This has helped identify which properties where impacted and where the water came from.
We are also collating a library of photos during the flood – please send us any photos you have with date, time and location information.
We will use this information to assist Suffolk County Council to complete a section 19 flood investigation report. The resulting reports will:
- highlight the probable causes of flooding;
- identify options to reduce future flood risk and increase property resilience; and
- make recommendations for actions by relevant responsible organisations, landowners or homeowners
Mapping catchment and quantifying water and flow, Identify flooding risks
Using data from the Environment Agency we have mapped the upstream water flows into Potsford Brook and the possible surface water in Charsfield, during high rainfall events. This give us key information on where the risk areas are in Charsfield.
Investigating cameras and depth gauges for Potsford Brook
We are experimenting with cameras and a depth gauge in Potsford Brook, plus a weather station to measure rainfall. This is key to understanding the pattern of rainfall and impact on the brook, as well as the streets in Charsfield.
Community afternoon tea
We held an afternoon tea on 3rd February 2024 to get together as a community and support each other.
Website
We have created this website to keep you updated on our progress.
Future Plans – we will continue the activities above, plus exploring a flood early warning notification e.g. WhatsApp, this web page, as a way of flagging when a potential flood event may happen, and providing help where needed.
