A feast of free music and more!
Ipswich Music Day is the largest free one-day music festival in the UK and a brilliant celebration of music, culture and local talent. Get ready for six stages of live entertainment from 45 artists and musicians, plus an array of performers from 12pm to 8pm on Sunday 7 July, fairground rides for children and adults, street food, and a marketplace.

This year’s Indian Summer Mela stage brings a rich and colourful celebration of Indian culture including live entertainment, demonstrations, and authentic Indian street food.
The beat goes on at Global Rhythm the following Saturday 13 July. Enjoy live music and culture from across the world in Christchurch Park, 1pm – 7pm, plus a funfair, food and craft stalls to add to another free banquet of musical delights.
Join DiGBY and Beattie’s Big Adventure
AR is taking over the town again this summer – get ready to join DiGBY, Beattie and friends on our new AR trail starting Saturday 20 July!
Through an ‘augmented reality’ virtual experience, players will use their smartphones to navigate a set route that combines the real world with computer-generated content, in a mix of learning and fun, games and storytelling.
This free self-guided tour will feature themed stops around the town centre, each with characters unique to Ipswich, including DiGBY the Octopus, Beattie the Hedgehog and Cardinal Wolsey’s Cat. At each stop, interact with the characters and learn about the themes while exploring old and new areas of town.

An Eye for Life: Photography by John Ferguson
A new exhibition of portrait photography has opened at Christchurch Mansion’s Wolsey Art Gallery.
Celebrating themes of portraiture, identity and home, it features works by internationally established photographer John Ferguson. The display covers his photo stories for a leading national newspaper, as well as Ipswich’s newly acquired Black Suffolk portraits and some of John’s favourite personal projects, such as Forgotten African American Cowboys and Ipswich Banger Racers.
This free exhibition also explores his time working with many celebrities, including Oasis, The Spice Girls, Dolly Parton, Tom Jones and David Bowie.
Amazing Animals
The live animals are back at Christchurch Mansion this summer!
Learn about various animals, how they adapt and survive in their environments, and how humans impact their worlds.
Each session will focus on different types of animals:
- Cute and Fluffy – 22 July & 12 August
- Scales and Slime – 29 July & 19 August
- Minibeasts – 5 August
Tickets cost £6 per person. Under 3s are free.
