On Monday, 8th May 1995 Charsfield celebrated the 50th year since VE Day with a street party. There was an initial remembrance gathering outside the village hall. Then, the young children led dancing round the maypole; the adults joined in. Groups chatted along The Street, outside the Three Horseshoes. There were old army vehicles to see in the pub car park. One of the main attractions was an extensive exhibition in the village hall where villagers shared their ephemera, photos, accounts, and music of the war. Trestle tables were set up in a line and the children had a giant tea party. They were each given a “Charsfield VE Day” cup as a souvenir. Later, there was an evening party.
